Govt Vows to Improve Tax System, Boost Exports

The federal government has held a fresh round of consultations with business leaders and exporters to discuss further improvements to Pakistan’s tax regime, export facilitation measures, and the overall business environment.

The consultative meeting, chaired by the Minister of State for Finance and Revenue at the Ministry of Finance, brought together senior government officials and representatives of the country’s export and industrial sectors to review policy and administrative measures aimed at boosting exports and improving industrial competitiveness.

Discussions focused on key export support initiatives, including the Drawback of Local Taxes and Levies (DLTL) scheme, the Technology Upgradation Fund (TUF), and the Export Facilitation Scheme (EFS). Participants exchanged proposals to improve the effectiveness of these programmes and ensure their timely implementation.

Representatives from the business community also highlighted issues related to the ease of doing business, operational efficiency, and Pakistan’s export competitiveness, while emphasizing the need for continued public-private engagement to support sustainable economic growth.

The Minister of State reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining regular consultations with the private sector and pursuing policies that encourage investment, industrial development, exports, and economic growth.

He said the Ministry of Finance, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and the Ministry of Commerce would continue working closely with stakeholders to facilitate trade and strengthen the country’s export sector.

The meeting was attended by prominent business leaders, including former Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Jawed Bilwani, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Syed Ahtisham Mazhar, Rana Imran, Jamshed Murtaza, former KCCI President Zubair Motiwala, Pakistan Textile Exporters Association Patron-in-Chief Khurram Mukhtar, and FA International CEO Aslam Pakhali.

Senior government officials present at the meeting included Secretary Commerce, Member Sales Tax FBR Dr. Hamid Ateeq Sarwar, Chief Collector Exports and IOCO Mohsin, and Member Customs Policy FBR Ashhad Jawwad.
