PCB Approves Funding for Women’s Domestic Cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approved funding for women’s domestic One-Day and T20 tournaments as part of its efforts to provide more competitive opportunities to women cricketers in the country.

The decision was taken during the 84th meeting of the PCB Board of Governors in Lahore, chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The board approved the organization of the tournaments and allocated the required funds for their staging.

The development comes at a time when Pakistan women’s team mentor Wahab Riaz has been calling for stronger domestic structures in women’s cricket, including the launch of a women’s T20 league in Pakistan.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Wahab said Pakistan’s women cricketers need greater exposure through both local and overseas competitions. He said a women’s T20 league in Pakistan would allow local players to share dressing rooms with international cricketers and learn from their experience.

The former fast bowler added that more competitive cricket would help raise the overall standard of the women’s game in the country.

He also pointed out that Pakistan’s women cricketers have limited match exposure compared to male players, which affects their decision-making and self-belief at the international level.

The PCB’s approval of funds for women’s domestic tournaments is expected to play an important role in giving players a more structured domestic pathway and improving the depth of women’s cricket in Pakistan.
