The Punjab Traffic Police has announced a new initiative aimed at improving road safety by helping motorists better understand traffic signs across the province.
As part of the initiative, traffic authorities will begin adding Urdu text to road signs alongside existing traffic symbols. The Urdu text will explain the meaning of each sign, enabling drivers to easily understand the instructions being conveyed.
Traffic officials said road signs are a key part of the traffic management system. While mandatory signs instruct drivers to take or avoid certain actions, informational signs warn motorists about conditions ahead, such as schools, hospitals, or pedestrian crossings.
According to the Punjab Traffic Police, the law already allows road signs to carry the same instructions in Urdu. However, the provision had not been implemented, leaving many motorists unfamiliar with the meaning of several traffic signs.
For example, a school ahead sign will also include written Urdu text informing drivers that a school is located ahead. DIG Traffic Punjab expressed hope that the initiative will improve public understanding of traffic signs, encourage compliance with traffic rules, and contribute to safer roads across the province.

They need to check on many roads sign boards hidden (trees or buildings). Should be installed where people can read and find clearly.
Punjab traffic slightly improved but still need to work. Punjab govt should start basics in schools / syllabus, awareness from large organizations etc. Fake no plates or driving without no plate is a challenge because people following law receiving fines for.minor mistakes but those not following moving free & without any challan.
