Lawmakers on the Senate Standing Committee on Interior accused Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials of concealing information to hide the authority’s failure to achieve its tax collection target.
During the committee meeting today, Convener Senator Saifullah Abro strongly criticized FBR officials, alleging that they had provided misleading information to parliament.
The situation escalated when Abro ordered the FBR’s Chief Operations Officer to leave the meeting.
He also criticized the performance of senior officials, stating that three to four officers have ruined the entire system, and questioned why officials accused of providing incorrect information were holding key positions.
The remarks came after growing scrutiny of the FBR’s tax collection performance and its reporting to parliamentary committees.
The FBR has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
