ISLAMABAD: A team from the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport (DfT) has arrived in Pakistan to carry out safety audits of Lahore and Islamabad airports as part of an assessment of security arrangements for direct flights between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, sources said on Sunday.
According to the sources, the British delegation arrived in Pakistan on Sunday and will begin the audit on Monday. The team will first inspect Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore before conducting a similar assessment at Islamabad International Airport.
The visit comes as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) completes preparations to launch direct flights between Lahore and Manchester. According to the national carrier, it will operate its first weekly Lahore to Manchester flight on July 2, 2026.
PIA had initially planned to begin the route with a Manchester to Lahore flight on July 3, but it has revised the schedule to launch the service with the outbound Lahore flight a day earlier.
