Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, and almost every major publisher appears determined to avoid releasing a game around it.
November’s major game release calendar currently remains virtually empty apart from Rockstar Games’ upcoming title. Meanwhile, September and October have become crowded as publishers place their biggest releases before GTA 6 arrives.
The lack of major November releases is not accidental. Three large game publishers previously said they were prepared to delay their titles to avoid competing directly with GTA 6.
Industry executives said a new Grand Theft Auto game could take a large share of players’ time and spending. Some publishers also planned to avoid releasing major updates for existing live-service games during the GTA 6 launch period.
The concern extends beyond direct sales competition. Any game launching near GTA 6 would also have to compete for media coverage, online discussion, and players’ limited free time.
Several major games are instead scheduled to arrive before November.
The current release calendar includes Marvel’s Wolverine on September 15, Dune: Awakening on September 22, Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall on September 24, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 25.
Ace Combat 8 is scheduled for October 2, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is also expected during October.
Other publishers have moved projects into 2027. Microsoft also mentioned GTA 6 when explaining why the new Fable game would no longer arrive in 2026.
Publishers have reason to remain cautious. Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold nearly 230 million copies across three console generations and continues to earn revenue through GTA Online.
When GTA 5 launched in September 2013, it generated half of all US game revenue recorded that month. It also accounted for 89% of physical game sales in the UK during its release week.
Publishers therefore expect GTA 6 to take a significant amount of attention and spending away from other releases.
The claim that no other game will release in November is slightly overstated. Smaller titles, ports, and previously unannounced games could still appear during the month.
Nintendo has also not fully announced its plans for the 2026 holiday season, meaning another major November release remains possible.
However, the current schedule shows that most large publishers are unwilling to challenge GTA 6 directly. Instead, they are releasing games earlier or delaying them until 2027, leaving Rockstar with little major competition in November.
