IESCO Tags Indian Ministry of Power in Twitter Notice

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) came under fire on social media after users noticed that a public notice posted from its official X account had tagged India’s Ministry of Power instead of Pakistan’s.

The power utility shared a notice informing consumers that temporary electricity load management was underway in some areas because demand had outpaced supply.

The message said the restricted load management would continue during the day until the power supply burden eased and assured consumers that uninterrupted restoration would begin once the situation improved. It also asked affected users for cooperation and directed them to helpline 118 for complaints and further information.

But what drew the most attention was the account tagged in the post.

In the caption, IESCO tagged @MinOfPower, which is the official X account of India’s Ministry of Power, not Pakistan’s. The blunder was quickly picked up by users, who mocked the utility for what many described as carelessness from a major public service body already facing criticism over outages and poor customer facilitation.

Citizens used the opportunity to vent frustration over prolonged power cuts in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, especially during late-night hours in peak summer heat.

Several replies also questioned the usefulness of IESCO’s helpline, with users claiming complaint numbers either go unanswered or fail to provide timely relief.

The timing has only made the criticism harsher. Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been facing intense summer conditions in recent days, with both cities also featuring among the hottest urban centers on global heat-monitoring charts. In that backdrop, even a small communication blunder from a power utility was always going to land badly.
