Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the province’s electric bus service in six more districts as part of the government’s plan to expand environmentally friendly public transportation across Punjab.
The latest phase brings the Green Bus Service to Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Khanewal, and Khushab, extending modern public transport to more parts of the province.
According to the Punjab government, passengers can travel on the air conditioned electric buses for a fare of Rs. 20. Maryam Nawaz said the Green Bus Service is expanding rapidly and aims to provide affordable, modern, and comfortable transportation to people across Punjab.
She added that the government plans to have 1,100 electric buses operating across the province by the end of this year, increase the fleet to 1,500 buses next year, and eventually expand it to 5,000 buses over the next three years.
The chief minister said the service is being extended from major cities to tehsils without discrimination to improve access to public transport across the province. She said women, students, and workers are among the largest beneficiaries of the Green Bus Service, adding that the number of buses will continue to increase in phases until the facility reaches every tehsil in Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz said the expansion of eco friendly public transport is setting a new standard for affordable and modern commuting in the province.
