Punjab Launches Administrative Restructuring of Population Welfare Department

The Punjab government has approved the transfer of 6,553 employees of the Population Welfare Department to the Services and General Administration Department’s (S&GAD) surplus pool as part of a major administrative restructuring.

Under the new framework, employees from the Population Welfare Department across all 36 districts will be adjusted against newly created positions.

The government has issued formal orders to transfer staff to the new administrative cadre, with the reassignment process beginning immediately.

Officials said the move is part of the implementation of the department’s reorganisation plan. A notification has also been issued placing all Population Welfare Department employees in the surplus pool until they are posted to their new positions.

The government confirmed that employees’ salaries, service records and other employment matters will continue under the revised administrative structure during the transition.

The restructuring aims to streamline the department’s operations and ensure the efficient deployment of thousands of employees under Punjab’s new administrative setup.
