Punjab Announces 50,000 Tractors for Farmers

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a plan to distribute 50,000 tractors to farmers over the next three years, calling it the largest tractor distribution initiative in the province’s history.

She made the announcement during a meeting of the Punjab Agriculture Department, where officials reviewed the performance of the Kissan Card program and the government’s agricultural mechanization initiatives.

Maryam Nawaz said the government has taken concrete steps to empower farmers and claimed that no previous administration had provided tractors on such a large scale.

Officials informed the meeting that the Punjab government has disbursed Rs. 360 billion in interest free loans under the Kissan Card program. They said farmers have repaid 99 percent of the loans issued so far, while 80 percent of the borrowed funds were used to purchase fertilizer.

The briefing also stated that urea prices have remained stable for the past two and a quarter years. The chief minister said the government will continue introducing initiatives to modernize agriculture, improve farm productivity, and provide greater support to farmers across Punjab.
