PTA Rejects Rumors of Phone Tax Installments on DIRBS

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has dismissed a notification circulating on social media that falsely claims mobile device taxes can now be paid in installments, saying it did not issue any such directive.

In a clarification, the PTA said the notification being shared online is fake and misleading, and urged the public not to rely on unverified information.

The authority said the assessment, levy and collection of taxes and duties on mobile devices fall solely under the jurisdiction of the Federal Board of Revenue. It added that the PTA has no role in determining, announcing or collecting such taxes.

According to the regulator, its role is limited to the registration and compliance management of mobile devices through the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System.

The PTA further said that the only recent public advisory issued by it relates to the scheduled maintenance of the DIRBS, during which some services may remain temporarily unavailable.

The authority advised citizens to avoid sharing or acting on unverified claims circulating on social media and to seek authentic information only through its official channels.
