You Can Now Buy Lifelike Humanoid Robots for Your Home

Chinese robotics company UBTech has launched a range of lifelike humanoid robots designed for personal companionship and use inside homes.

The U1 series was unveiled in Shenzhen on Tuesday and comes in male and female versions. The robots feature silicone skin, emotional artificial intelligence and human-like facial movements.

The male version stands 183cm tall, while the female model measures 168cm.

Human-Like Design

The U1 features 88 servo joints and a silicone exterior designed to give it a more realistic appearance.

UBTech developed the robot for interaction with people in domestic environments rather than for factory or industrial work.

According to staff at the launch event, the robot can hold conversations and maintain eye contact with users. It is available only to adults.

Emotional AI

The robot’s emotional AI system runs locally on a Rockchip RK3588 processor.

UBTech also stores user information directly on the robot instead of uploading it to cloud servers, which could reduce privacy concerns linked to personal conversations and household data.

The launch reflects a broader trend among Chinese robotics companies to expand humanoid machines beyond industrial settings and into homes as personal companions.
