Colombia Beat Ghana to Reach FIFA World Cup Round of 16

Colombia booked their place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 for the fourth time in the nation’s history after earning a disciplined 1-0 win over Ghana in their Round of 32 match at Kansas City Stadium.

The South American side delivered a composed and controlled performance, with Jhon Arias scoring the only goal of the match early in the first half.

Colombia started brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute. Luis Diaz sent an inviting cross into the penalty area, where Arias reacted quickly and guided the ball into the net with a composed first-time finish. The Ghanaian defense had little time to recover as Colombia moved ahead.

After taking the lead, Colombia controlled the tempo for much of the match. They finished with 62 percent possession and created regular pressure on the Ghana goal. Colombia ended the game with 20 attempts, while Ghana managed eight.

Despite creating several promising chances, Colombia could not extend their lead. Ghana, however, kept the scoreline respectable and stayed in the match until the final whistle.

Colombia were also strong defensively. Goalkeeper Camilo Vargas was well protected by a disciplined backline that limited Ghana’s attacking threat throughout the contest.

Ghana struggled to create clear chances and failed to register a single shot on target. Colombia’s defensive organization and calmness under pressure played a key role in securing the result.

The victory continues Colombia’s impressive World Cup campaign and confirms their place among the final 16 teams in the tournament.

Colombia will now travel to Vancouver for a highly anticipated Round of 16 match against Switzerland on Tuesday, with a place in the quarterfinals at stake.
