Pakistan Announces New-Look Test Squad for West Indies and England Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming Test tours of the West Indies and England, with both series scheduled to be played between July and September.

The squad was announced during a press conference at Gaddafi Stadium, which was attended by members of the PCB selection committee, including Aqib Javed, Asad Shafiq and Misbah-ul-Haq.

Babar Azam has replaced Shan Masood as Pakistan’s red-ball captain. The squad also includes three uncapped players: Ali Usman, Mohammad Awais Zafar and pacer Ubaid Shah.

Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal have retained their places after impressing on their Test debut during the series against Bangladesh, although Pakistan suffered a 2-0 whitewash in that series.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has regained full fitness and has been included in the squad. However, there are still concerns over Saud Shakeel’s fitness. He has been left out of the West Indies tour but has been included for the England tour, subject to fitness.

All-rounder Aamer Jamal has also returned to the Test squad for the first time since featuring against South Africa in 2025. Pakistan’s pace attack includes Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Ali, young fast bowler Ubaid Shah and Khurram Shehzad.

Sajid Khan is the only specialist spinner in the squad, while Salman Ali Agha could provide a backup spin option. Noman Ali has not been included. He was also left out of Pakistan’s previous Test tour of Bangladesh.

Pakistan is currently at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 standings after winning one and losing three of their four matches. The team has four points and a points percentage of 8.33.

The national side is scheduled to leave for the West Indies on July 13. Pakistan will play a four-day warm-up match starting on July 18.

The two-match Test series against the West Indies will be played in Trinidad and Tobago. The first Test is scheduled from July 25 to 29, while the second Test will take place from August 2 to 6.

After the Caribbean tour, Pakistan will travel to England for a three-match Test series. The first Test will be played at Headingley in Leeds from August 19 to 23.

The second Test will be held at Lord’s from August 27 to 31. The third and final Test will take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham from September 9 to 13.
