Vivo Launches Two Budget Phones With Massive 7,200mAh Batteries

Vivo has quietly introduced the G5i and G5z in China, offering large batteries, basic cameras, and mid-range hardware at relatively affordable prices.

Although Vivo lists them as separate devices, the G5i and G5z appear to be identical. Both carry the V2531A model number and the same 02-B220-253548 licence number. They also share the same design, specifications, memory configurations, Obsidian Black colour, and pricing.

Vivo has not disclosed any technical differences between them.

Design and Display

The Vivo G5i and G5z have identical exterior designs and are available in a single Obsidian Black finish.

Both phones feature a 6.75-inch LCD with an HD+ resolution of 1570 × 720 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display also supports a 240Hz touch-sampling rate, 83% NTSC colour coverage, and a pixel density of 256 pixels per inch.

The devices include dual stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, and an infrared blaster for controlling compatible appliances.

Vivo has given both phones IP68 and IP69 ratings for resistance against dust and water. The company also advertises a five-star drop-and-shock-resistance certification.

Internals and Software

Both models use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. The 4nm octa-core chipset reaches a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz and includes an Adreno 613 GPU.

Vivo pairs the processor with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Buyers can choose between 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The hardware is intended for routine tasks, social media use, and light gaming rather than flagship-level performance.

Cameras

The G5i and G5z each have a single 50MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, autofocus, and support for up to 10x digital zoom.

An 8MP camera on the front handles selfies and video calls. It has an f/2.05 aperture and supports up to 2x digital zoom.

The camera systems are basic and are not positioned to compete with more expensive performance-focused or camera-focused smartphones.

Battery and Pricing

A 7,200mAh battery powers both phones, with support for 44W wired fast charging.

Vivo is promoting the devices with a “six-year long-life battery” claim, alongside its durability certifications. The large capacity, combined with the power-efficient Snapdragon processor, is intended to support extended daily use.

The 6GB and 128GB configuration costs around $323, while the 8GB and 256GB version is priced at around $426. Both models carry the same prices and configurations on Vivo’s Chinese store.

The G5i and G5z, therefore appear to be the same phone sold under two separate names rather than two devices with different hardware or features.
