The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heat advisory after dangerous heat index levels were recorded across several cities, with Sibbi experiencing a “feels like” temperature of 68.2°C at 2:00 pm on July 8.
According to the PMD, high temperatures combined with elevated humidity have significantly increased the heat index, creating conditions that can lead to heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Bahawalnagar recorded a heat index of 56.7°C, while Dera Ismail Khan and Dadu both reached 55.8°C.
Other cities also reported dangerous conditions, including Sargodha (52.7°C), Hyderabad (51.6°C), Sukkur (51.3°C), Sheikhupura (50.8°C), Faisalabad (49.5°C), and Peshawar (49.0°C).
Even relatively cooler cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi recorded “feels like” temperatures above 41°C due to humidity.
The Met Office has advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and take extra precautions for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can result in dehydration, heat exhaustion, or life-threatening heatstroke if preventive measures are not followed.
