First Ever MS Stroke Intervention Program Approved in Pakistan

The Academic Council of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) has approved Pakistan’s first MS Stroke Intervention (Level IV) degree program to train specialists in advanced stroke treatment.

The approval was granted during the council’s 43rd meeting chaired by UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore. The program aims to develop a highly skilled workforce in interventional neuroradiology and endovascular stroke management, supporting Punjab’s expanding network of comprehensive stroke centres.

Graduates will be trained in advanced catheter based procedures for treating acute ischemic stroke and other cerebrovascular disorders, helping improve timely stroke care and patient outcomes. Speaking at the meeting, Prof Rathore said the program would help meet the growing demand for trained specialists as Punjab continues to expand its stroke care services.

The Academic Council also approved curricula for new PhD programs in nursing, public health, oral biology, and medical education, along with revisions to several postgraduate and certificate programs aimed at strengthening research, clinical training, and healthcare education.

Additionally, the council made it mandatory for PhD scholars to participate in at least three national and one international conference or seminar before being awarded their doctoral degree.
