KP Expands Scope of Health Card

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved the Health Policy 2026, introducing wide-ranging reforms aimed at improving healthcare services across the province.

A key feature of the new policy is the expansion of Outpatient Department (OPD) services under the Sehat Card programme, allowing more people to benefit from subsidized healthcare.

The government has also approved the launch of school health services to improve preventive care and early diagnosis among students.

The policy places a strong emphasis on digital transformation, with plans to introduce advanced technology, expand digital monitoring systems, and fully activate the Healthcare Commission.

Basic health units, maternal and child healthcare services, and the Lady Health Workers programme will also receive additional support.

To strengthen emergency and specialized care, the provincial government has approved the establishment of Intensive Care Units (ICUs), Critical Care Units (CCUs), and burn centers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The policy also promotes telemedicine, palliative care, and geriatric medicine while introducing measures to address shortages of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff.

In addition, the cabinet approved the Occupational Safety and Health Rules 2026, requiring institutions with 50 or more employees to appoint safety and health officers and implement workplace safety measures, including emergency response training and first aid facilities.

The cabinet also approved the expansion of Sifat Ghayoor Shaheed Memorial Hospital to enhance healthcare services for local communities.
