PSX Investors Near 600,000

Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a record surge in investor participation with more than 190,000 new investors joining the market over the past year, pushing the total investor count past 583,000.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) said the number of stock market investors increased by 48 percent during the year.

Young investors dominated the new registrations, with 45 percent of new investors aged 18 to 30 years, while another 41 percent belonged to the 31 to 45-year age group.

Karachi accounted for 25 percent of all new investor accounts, followed by Lahore with 16 percent, while Islamabad and Rawalpindi together contributed 13 percent.

SECP attributed the strong growth to measures aimed at simplifying investment. These included increasing the limit for the Sahulat Account from Rs. 1 million to Rs. 3 million.

SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said engaging young people with Pakistan’s capital market remains the regulator’s top priority. He added that a digital onboarding mobile app will soon be launched to make investing even more convenient.

He said capital markets can play a vital role in driving economic growth by channeling household savings into productive investments, adding that SECP’s goal is to make investing simpler, faster, and accessible to every citizen.
