Sindh Announces New Bus Routes

The Sindh government has decided to introduce exclusive bus routes under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model and launch a new People’s Bus Service route between Larkana and Qambar to improve public transport facilities across the province.

The decisions were taken during a meeting of the Department of Transport and Mass Transit chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, where officials reviewed ongoing and upcoming transport projects, including electric buses, EV taxis, double decker buses, and the Green Line and Orange Line services.

Under the PPP initiative, modern air conditioned electric buses will operate on dedicated routes, which will be offered to private investors through competitive bidding. The government aims to improve transportation services while encouraging private sector investment.

The minister also directed officials to launch the Larkana Qambar People’s Bus Service route at the earliest, saying it would provide improved travel facilities and support economic activity between the two districts.

Officials informed the meeting that work on the EV taxi project is progressing, with consultations underway with stakeholders. The minister said an eco friendly EV taxi service would soon be launched in Karachi.

The meeting was also informed that ridership on the Green Line BRT has increased from 50,000 to 81,000 passengers daily, while the Orange Line has grown from 1,800 to 9,800 daily passengers, reflecting increased public reliance on mass transit services.

Sharjeel Memon also directed authorities to take action against the misuse of Pink electric scooters, warning that unauthorized users would face legal action and scooters found being used by men or disguised through color changes would be confiscated.
