Russia Holds First-Ever Humanoid Robot Wedding

Russia has held its first-ever symbolic wedding ceremony for humanoid robots, with videos from the event quickly spreading across social media.

The ceremony took place in Moscow at the Pushkin Library, where two humanoid robots named Robert and Matilda were declared robot husband and wife. The event was designed as a public demonstration of advances in humanoid robotics rather than a legally recognized marriage.

During the ceremony, the robots exchanged wedding bracelets and vows before being introduced as a married couple. A robot dog also took part in the celebration by presenting the wedding bracelets. Videos shared online showed the robots dancing during the event.

Robert was designed to represent an office worker and blogger, while Matilda was created as a ballerina robot. Both robots were previously introduced to the public at the 2026 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum before appearing together at the wedding ceremony.

Rise of Humanoid Robots

The symbolic wedding comes at a time when humanoid robots are receiving growing attention around the world. In 2026, robotics companies continued to demonstrate machines capable of walking, interacting with people, handling objects, and performing tasks in workplaces and public settings.

Developers are increasingly combining advanced AI models with improved sensors, cameras, and dexterous robotic hands, allowing humanoid robots to perform more complex tasks than previous generations. Manufacturers are also testing robots for use in factories, warehouses, logistics, healthcare, hospitality, and retail, with several companies expanding pilot programs during the year.
