Houses Obstructing Dasu Hydropower Project Demolished

The Upper Kohistan district administration has demolished around 70 houses to ensure the smooth execution of the 4,300-megawatt Dasu Hydropower Project.

Deputy Commissioner Azizullah Jan said houses and other structures located within the project’s construction site were being removed.

“We have so far paid Rs. 3.5 million each to over 200 affected families, while payments to the remaining around 300 families are also being made under the enhanced self-managed relocation package,” Jan said.

He said a total of 500 houses had been marked for demolition.

Jan said it was encouraging that families receiving compensation were cooperating with the district administration, helping ensure the smooth execution of the power project.

He added that schools, healthcare facilities, roads, vocational centers and colleges would also be established for communities affected by the project under the Dasu Dam’s public welfare initiatives.
