The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) has introduced stricter safety rules for construction and demolition activities across the city.
Under the new directives, builders and developers must take measures to control dust, remove debris promptly, and display approved building plans and permissions at project sites.
According to an official notification, construction and demolition work will not be allowed unless proper dust suppression arrangements are in place. These may include regular water sprinkling or other measures to reduce air pollution.
Construction material and debris cannot be dumped on streets without written permission from the relevant authority. Builders will also be required to clear roads after completing work or whenever directed by the MCL.
The notification states that construction material, fences, hoardings, and other temporary structures must not block fire hydrants, utility services, or drainage systems. Where an obstruction cannot be avoided, alternative arrangements must be made to the satisfaction of the civic authority.
Any construction material or debris placed on roads and streets must be removed on a priority basis. Builders must also cover construction material with green sheets to prevent dust from spreading.
Building and enforcement inspectors have been directed to ensure compliance with the safety requirements under the MCL Building and Zoning Byelaws 2020.
Developers and contractors must also display approved building plans and planning permissions at construction sites.
