Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a fresh warning to the United States, saying Washington can no longer maintain what he described as an unchallenged presence in the Middle East.
In a post on X, Mojtaba Khamenei wrote:
“The Great Satan – the criminal US – has now realized that the continuation of its trouble-free, domineering presence in the region is nothing but a naive fantasy.”
The phrase “Great Satan” has long been used by Iranian leaders to describe the United States. It bluntly states Iran’s decades-old opposition to the US military’s presence in the region.
Diplomacy between Iran and the United States is at its lowest point in history after recent attacks by US forces on Iran’s energy and shipping infrastructure this year.
Mojtaba Khamenei is widely regarded as an influential figure within Iran’s political and religious establishment following the martyrdom of his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
