Govt Suspends RLNG Supply to Agritech Urea Plant

Agritech Limited has informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has suspended the supply of re liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to its urea plant following a government decision taken in response to disruptions in RLNG supplies caused by the prevailing regional situation.

In a notice to the exchange, the company said RLNG supplies to the plant were suspended from 12:00 am on July 18, 2026. It added that stakeholders will be informed once gas supplies resume.

While Agritech did not explicitly announce that production had been halted, the suspension of RLNG supplies is expected to affect operations at the urea plant, which relies on the fuel for production.

The latest disruption comes despite the government’s recent efforts to keep RLNG based fertilizer plants operational to maintain domestic urea supplies. Earlier this month, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved continued gas arrangements for Agritech and Fatima Fertilizer, warning that prolonged supply disruptions could reduce local urea production and tighten availability ahead of the upcoming Rabi season.

Pakistan has sufficient installed urea production capacity to meet domestic demand, but uninterrupted gas supply remains critical for fertilizer manufacturers, particularly plants that depend on RLNG.

Agritech has faced similar disruptions before. Earlier this year, the company suspended production after interruptions in LNG supplies linked to regional tensions in the Middle East. Operations resumed after gas supplies were restored.
