Samsung has confirmed that the red screen issue reported by some Galaxy S26 Ultra users is caused by software, not faulty display hardware. The company says a software update is being prepared to fix the problem.
Reports of a red or magenta tint on the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s display began appearing online shortly after the phone’s release. Many users speculated that the issue was linked to the device’s first-generation Privacy Display OLED panel and feared it was a hardware defect.
Samsung has now addressed those concerns through an official statement. A company executive explained that the display’s color balance may shift toward red when the OLED panel is exposed to strong ambient lighting.
According to Samsung, the upcoming software update will adjust the color balance to eliminate the problem.
Software Update Still Pending
The software fix has not yet been released. Samsung says users who are unable to wait for the update and find the issue disruptive may need to visit a Samsung service center.
The company’s explanation indicates that affected devices do not have defective OLED panels. Instead, the problem is software-related and can be resolved without replacing the display.
Questions Remain
While Samsung has identified the issue as a software problem, some questions remain unanswered.
The company’s statement does not explain why the issue appears only after some time instead of immediately after purchase. It also does not clarify why the red or magenta tint is visible only in certain areas of the display on affected devices.
Samsung has not provided additional details beyond confirming that a software update is in development to address the issue.
