The federal government has dismissed reports of a fertilizer shortage in Pakistan, saying sufficient urea stocks are available across the country and there is no risk of supply disruptions ahead of the upcoming crop season.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain made the remarks while chairing a meeting with Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah to review fertilizer availability, pricing, and supply.
The meeting focused on ensuring affordable fertilizer for farmers through closer coordination between the federal and provincial governments and fertilizer manufacturers. Officials also discussed measures to stabilize fertilizer prices and strengthen the supply chain.
Rana Tanveer said the government is working with all provinces and stakeholders to develop a coordinated strategy to maintain stable prices and ensure uninterrupted fertilizer availability. He added that he has requested fertilizer companies to reduce urea prices to provide relief to farmers.
“There is no shortage of fertilizers in Pakistan,” the minister said, adding that fertilizer plants are operating normally, adequate quantities are available in the market, and there is no likelihood of shortages in the coming months.
