Microsoft is launching Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC, allowing users to play original Xbox games on Windows PCs and handheld devices without using the original console.
Microsoft announced the program in a blog post. The company said the launch “marks the beginning of a broader effort to preserve Xbox games from the past and bring them to PC.”
Four Games at Launch
The program will initially include four games:
- Blinx: The Time Sweeper
- Conker: Live & Reloaded
- Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
- Fuzion Frenzy
Microsoft plans to expand the collection over time. However, the company has not said when it will add more games.
Players will be able to purchase the four titles on PC. The games will also be available through all Game Pass plans.
Users who already own digital licences for these games will not need to purchase them again. Their existing licences will carry over to PCs and handheld devices.
New Features
Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC will introduce several features designed to improve the experience of playing older games on modern hardware.
These features include four-times resolution upscaling, VSync support, improved anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and support for both fullscreen and windowed display modes.
Players will also be able to customise language and audio settings.
Microsoft said it will add Achievements to the supported games later this year.
