Samsung has unveiled new AI-powered smart glasses at its Galaxy Unpacked event.
The glasses are designed for everyday use, unlike the Galaxy XR headset, which is better suited for gaming and professional work. Samsung developed the digital platform with Google and Qualcomm, while Gentle Monster and Warby Parker worked on the eyewear designs.
The Samsung smart glasses run Android XR and use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chipset.
The AR1 chip is designed for thin and light smart glasses. It is different from the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 used in the Galaxy XR headset, which is built for more powerful mixed reality devices.
The glasses include Google Gemini, with a version of the assistant built for wearables.
Gemini can use the built-in camera to understand the user’s surroundings. For example, the glasses can capture a whiteboard and help organize the information into a notes app.
The camera can also record first-person video or show what the user is seeing during a video call.
The glasses can summarize long messages and read important information aloud.
They also support real-time translation, which can help users while traveling in places where they do not speak the local language.
Samsung says the glasses can also provide real-time navigation and share information about nearby places during sightseeing or everyday movement.
Samsung’s smart glasses do not include a display.
Instead, they focus on audio feedback, AI assistance, camera-based context, and hands-free interaction. Samsung said the goal is to bring AI closer to users without requiring every interaction to start with a screen.
Samsung is also working on separate AR glasses that will include displays.
Users can control the glasses through voice commands, touch-sensitive areas on the temples, or connected devices.
Samsung showed two design versions. Gentle Monster created a slim black frame with a straight upper rim and rounded lower edges. Warby Parker designed a brown frame for everyday wear.
Samsung said intelligent eyewear creates a new way for users to interact with AI in daily life.
Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience business, said smart eyewear can bring more personalized AI assistance into everyday moments.
Google’s Sameer Samat said Android XR and Gemini will help the glasses respond naturally to what users see.
Samsung has not announced pricing or availability details yet.
