Workers have unearthed two statues during excavation work at the historic Lea Market in Karachi’s old city area, in what officials believe could be a significant archaeological discovery.
The statues were discovered during the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) renovation and beautification project at the market while workers were carrying out excavation work.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said experts will examine the statues to determine their age and historical significance.
Authorities have moved the artifacts to a secure location on the mayor’s instructions to ensure their preservation.
Officials said workers are continuing the excavation with extra caution following the discovery.
