Four Pakistani nationals, including two brothers and two of their workers, were shot dead in an alleged targeted attack in South Africa.
The shooting took place in Chloorkop, Kempton Park, on Saturday evening as the victims were returning home after closing their businesses.
The brothers, reportedly identified as Sajid Ahmad and Zafar Ahmad, belonged to Bullar village in Mandi Bahauddin District. The other two victims were said to be their workers.
All four men owned or worked at spaza shops in Tembisa.
According to Gauteng police, the victims were traveling in a Honda Ballade and had stopped at a traffic light near the intersection of Zuurfontein and Orangerivier roads when they were attacked.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said two unidentified men traveling in a white sedan stopped next to the victims’ vehicle, got out, and opened fire.
The driver attempted to escape but lost control of the car and crashed into a traffic island. All four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not yet established a motive for the shooting, while no arrests have been made so far.
“The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage, and the suspects have not been arrested. Police investigations are under way,” Nevhuhulwi said.
Hayat Khan, president of the Pakistan South Africa Association (PSAA) KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), expressed deep sorrow and shock over the killings and extended condolences to the victims’ families.
He said it was heartbreaking that the men had lost their lives while trying to earn an honest living and contribute to the South African economy.
Khan added that such violence not only devastates the victims’ families but also spreads fear and uncertainty across the wider community.
