The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi team has sealed 20 houses and under-construction plazas as part of an investigation into alleged corruption and irregularities in the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project.
NAB officials, accompanied by district authorities, raided a housing scheme where the properties had allegedly been constructed on amenity plots.
According to officials, individuals linked to the resettlement project allegedly colluded with others to create fake plot files and sell them to citizens, generating large amounts of illegal proceeds.
The bureau claimed that money obtained through the alleged fraud was used to purchase 25 acres of land in Thatta district. A housing scheme was later developed on the land in an alleged attempt to legalize the funds.
NAB had earlier stated in a notice that plots originally allotted to families affected by the Lyari Expressway project, along with land reserved for public welfare purposes, were unlawfully sold to other individuals.
The Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project was launched to provide housing to families displaced during the construction of the Lyari Expressway.
