Veteran Pakistani Pacer Breaks Imran Khan’s Long-Standing Test Record

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas surpassed legendary all-rounder Imran Khan after taking two early wickets against the West Indies on the third day of the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

Mohammad Abbas, who claimed three wickets for 63 runs in the first innings, made an impressive start in the second innings. He dismissed Brandon King for five and Kavem Hodge for zero in his third over.

The two wickets lowered Abbas’s Test bowling average to 22.78, allowing him to move ahead of Imran Khan’s previous Pakistan record of 22.81.

Imran took 362 wickets in 88 Tests during his distinguished career and also captained Pakistan to its World Cup victory.

Mohammad Abbas made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2017. He has now taken 115 wickets in 30 Test matches.

  • Imran Khan — 362 wickets in 88 Tests at 22.81

Mohammad Abbas also became only the sixth Pakistani fast bowler to take 100 Test wickets away from home. He joined Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Mohammad Amir and Umar Gul on the exclusive list.

His bowling average is the best among the six Pakistani fast bowlers who have achieved the milestone.

Following Abbas’s double strike, Mohammad Ali, Khurram Shahzad and all-rounder Aamir Jamal took one wicket each to put the West Indies under pressure.

The home side slipped to 80/5 in its second innings and held a lead of 109 runs.
