Young Lahore Qalandars Cricketer Leaves Pakistan for Zimbabwe

Former Lahore Qalandars leg-spinner Maaz Khan, who was part of the franchise’s championship-winning squad in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022, has decided to step away from Pakistani cricket and pursue his career in Zimbabwe.

Maaz Khan is a right-arm leg-break/Googly bowler, originally from the Bajaur District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He made his T20 debut for Lahore Qalandars in the 2018 Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy. He also played List A cricket for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cricket team during the 2021–22 season.

Before reaching the professional level, Maaz came through the Qalandars’ talent-development structure: the Lahore Qalandars Players Development Program (PDP), which scouts and nurtures young talent across Pakistan.

He reportedly added key skills, such as improved leg-spin and the flipper, to his repertoire under the coaching provided by the Qalandars.

Though still young and once viewed as a promising spin prospect, Maaz’s decision to leave Pakistan’s cricket circuit comes at a time when many players re-evaluate their career trajectories.

As he embarks on this new chapter in Zimbabwe, he carries with him the experience of PSL, domestic cricket, and the grooming he received at the Qalandars, a foundation that could well support his ambitions abroad.
