The Winter Olympics 2022 will kick off on February 4 in Beijing, China. With the ongoing pandemic, the organizers of the Olympics are using every possible means to minimize the chances of COVID-19 exposure. Athletes, coaches, and other attendees are required to be fully vaccinated. Wearing an underarm thermometer monitor is a must for athletes. Moreover, daily COVID testing and social distancing within the Olympic bubble are encouraged. Athletes are also instructed to avoid physical interactions like handshakes, high fives, and hugs and to strictly adhere to the six feet apart rule. One other precautionary measure to limit person-to-person contact that is making the headlines is the use of robots to prepare and deliver food to athletes of the Olympics.
Robots To Prepare and Deliver Food at Olympics
Olympic athletes are provided with a vast variety of food options during the competition. Organizers of the Olympics are using high technology to prepare and deliver food to attendees to ensure everyone’s safety. Among the high-tech serving devices, one is a ceiling-mounted robot arm. The pink and purple drone delivers bowls of noodles and other dishes to the people sitting in plexiglass cubicles in the Olympic dining halls. The main purpose of the electronic platform is to ensure a contact-less delivery.
Moreover, the ‘robot chefs’ will prepare hamburgers and other dishes that will be delivered remotely. Another robot will grind fresh coffee beans and brew a cup of coffee in less than four minutes. And a third robot will be working as a bartender. This bartender robot will be able to pour drinks within 90 seconds.
In short, robots will handle all the tasks from preparing to serving food to people. Food options like Chinese food, Western food, fast food, and other tons of dishes along with specific dietary preferences like kosher, vegan, or gluten-free foods will be available for athletes to choose from. Also, the media restaurant will operate 24 hours a day during the competition.
To Prevent the Continued Spread of COVID
Preparing and delivering food through “artificial intelligence” is not a bad idea, considering the continued spread of COVID. Therefore, in an aim to contain the spread of COVID-19, the precautions of Beijing Olympics 2022 are stricter than ever. And being served by robots will definitely be a novel experience for the attendees of the Olympics.
