Sealing off of the Monal restaurant has recently been the talk of the town. The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has recently come up with a new proposal. The aim is to transform the restaurant into a Wildlife Educational Center. This Wildlife Educational Center will work towards raising awareness about the preservation and protection of Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP).
The proposal has been prepared by the IWMB and is now to be presented to the relevant forum. After approval, the proposal will hopefully be put into action. The climate change ministry is also expected to support this proposal. As it has admired the decision of the court to seal the Monal restaurant.
Preservation Of Ecosystem
There are two other restaurants that are still operating in the locality of Margalla Hills National Park. These restaurants are also to receive notices from the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board soon. The climate change ministry and IWMB plan to restore the national park. An official from the climate change ministry said that any land occupied for personal and commercial uses will be restored. He also further stated that this decision will play a major role in the preservation of flora and fauna. This is a great initiative to promote biodiversity and restore the ecosystem. An IWMB chairperson is reported to have said “Old Islamabad Zoo is being turned into wildlife park with separate rescue center for injured wildlife species.”
The new educational and informational center for wildlife will be open to the general public. The Capital Development Authority also has no objections to these proposals. The chairperson further said, “The projects will raise awareness about wildlife and encourage visitors to respect and value rich biodiversity of the national park”. Furthermore, the MHNP is to be restored as per the decision of the court. This initiative, if put into action will be a great step towards the preservation of the ecosystem and protection of biodiversity.
