Well, ladies and gentlemen! 2019 has come to a screeching halt. It’s cold outside as people are wrapping up unfinished business and some are even planning their vacations. Speaking of business and downtime what’re the top-grossing Pakistani films in 2019?

Lollywood too has finally wrapped up after a year of extravagant movies. Although it did not see that much of a profitable year as compared to 2018. Yet, 2019 did produce some solid hits.

Its time we sit back and reflect on the best films Lollywood churned out this year. We will be taking a look at Pakistani movies’ earnings and box office numbers, do narrow down the top-grossing Pakistani films of 2019.

Lollywood’s Top 5 earning movies of 2019:

1) Superstar ₨ 27.01 crore (US$1.9 million)

Superstar, starring the superstar herself: Mahira Khan is a no-brainer. The film revolves around an aspiring actress “Noori” who wishes to reach a high level of stardom in the industry, Bilal Ashraf as the male lead Sameer. Lucky for her, she falls from cloud-nine for the son of a Superstar.

Superstarcements it’s status as the top earner of 2019, leaving every other film in the dust by a wide margin.

 

2) Parey Hut Love ₨ 26.8 crore (US$1.9 million)

Parey Hut Love is another rom-com that follows a romance blossom between the ever-eccentric Sheheryar (Sheheryar Munawar) and a no-nonsense girl with an ironclad resolve Saniya (Maya Ali). Directed by Asim Raza the film follows the lead characters’ budding relationship as they have a series of unexpected stints at weddings of their friends and family.

The film lost the top-grossing title of 2019 to Superstar by a small margin.

 

3) Wrong No. 2 ₨ 21.65 crore (US$1.5 million)

Wrong No.2 is a rag-tag affair between romance and comedy. It is the sequel to the 2015 film Wrong No. The film portrays the love story of a rich heiress named Zoya (Neelam Munir). Who falls in love with a man who goes by Omar (Sami Khan). Omar hails from a miserly background, far below Zoya’s financial status. Not your average ‘the princess and the pauper fairytale’. All goes into disarray when a former lover makes an appearance.

 

4) Chhalawa ₨ 17.90 crore (US$1.3 million)

Chhalawa is another Pakistani rom-com on the list. Chhawala reflects on parental influence on marriage. As well as how they can act as a barrier between love. Zoya (Mehwish Hayat) desires to wed her flame Sameer (Azfar Rehman). Except her father has other plans and marries her off to her cousin. The film is directed, written and produced by Wajahat Rauf.

5) Sherdil ₨ 12.61 crore (US$890,000)

Sherdil is a high octane fueled movie about our hero Haris Mustafa’s pursuit of a decorated military career. All the while facing insurmountable challenges in his personal life. Played by the ever charismatic Mikaal Zulfiqar. He seems to meet his match with Flight Lieutenant Arjun Veerani.

The film is directed by Azfar Jafri.
