A woman was killed in cold blood by her family relatives 10 years after she had married out of her own will in Sargodha. This heinous act of ‘honor killing’ was carried out by the woman’s 9-year-old nephew, who shot her dead.
It seems like our society is becoming more unhinged as numerous reports of ‘honor killing’ continue to make headlines nationwide. There are hundreds of young women and girls being killed by their relatives after being accused of ‘harming’ the family’s ‘honor’. The most common incentive behind these killings involve women wanting to pick partners against the family’s wishes.

However, this latest case of honor killing in Sargodha is truly shocking. A 9-year-old boy allegedly gunned down his paternal aunt, Kanwal Parveen.
According to the police, the boy was taught how to use a gun by his parents, who had pre-planned the murder of his aunt. The boy’s family did not approve of his aunt’s marriage 10 years ago (before the boy was even born!).
On 14 September, Kanwal’s family invited her over to ‘celebrate’ the birth of her nephew at their home. When she came over, she was shot by the 9-year-old boy. The family had pre-planned this crime as they knew the police could not charge the boy as an adult.
The Saddar police station house officer (SHO), Zafar Shah said stated, “It is very likely that his family informed him about his aunt and how she opted to marry by her choice. That’s why the boy shot his aunt dead.”
This is truly despicable and we hope the boy’s parents face justice for their heinous crime.
