When it comes to celebrities being philosophical or poetic and ‘deep’, it is always a hit or miss. Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan is a fresh example of this as she became the butt of many jokes after mistakenly attributing a couplet to Ghalib. Spoiler alert, it wasn’t Ghalib’s couplet.
The Raees star had been sharing a series throwback photos and poetry to give fans a sneak peek into her day to day life on social media due to the lockdown caused by the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic.
Recently, Mahira had a Q/A session on Twitter called #AskMahira. The actress also went live on Instagram.
On Wednesday, Khan talked about what she’s doing in quarantine during a question and answer session, #AskMahira, with fans on Twitter. While the actor answered as many questions as she could, she also talked about handwashing techniques amid the coronavirus pandemic.
However, it was this following tweet that created some buzz on social media. Mahira decided to share a couplet written on a charming background and attributed it to the great poet Mirza Ghalib.

Mahira was unaware of the fact that the couplet was not Ghalib’s and netizens couldn’t contain themselves and asked her to have mercy on the famed poet. The Raees actress was heavily trolled and she ended up deleting the tweet to avoid any more embarrassment.
Please don’t do this to Ghalib 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 please !
I know some of his earlier work was not deemed up to the mark …. but this isn’t him . Rehm 🙏🏼 https://t.co/ag26IPAQHS

I can't find this شعر in any نسخہ of دیوانِ غالب، can you please check if it's by غالب?

It is not at all by Ghalib. Such lousy balance of verses, badly composed thought, it sounds like few words have been out together in a rattle and are made to produce meaningless sound. Certainly not Ghalib. But I can recall a remotely related couple from Faraz. Lemme recall.

It’s okay Mahira, we know you were trying very hard to be philosophical and ‘woke’. But, next time a little bit of fact-checking on the source would help.
