Ertuğrul Shatters Mere Pass Tum Ho’s Viewership Records!

Ever since the Turkish series Ertuğrul Ghazi started airing in Pakistan, it has taken the nation by storm. People can’t get enough of the historical epic and the storyline it brings across. Pakistanis have taken such an immense liking towards the series and its cast (though the less we talk about the latter, the better).

The show has had record-breaking views since the day it has started airing in the country. At the moment, Ertuğrul has now broken a massive record that was previously held by a major Pakistani drama, Mere Pass Tum Ho!

Let’s look at the numbers

The first episode of Ertuğrul on YouTube reached over 20 million views in 2 weeks. In Pakistan, the record for the most-watched first episode of any Pakistani drama was held previously by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar’s hugely popular drama series. Even Mere Pass Tum Ho took 8 months just to reach 20 million views!

Originally produced by the Turkish state-owned media company TRT, the drama also made it to Netflix, the largest streaming website worldwide. Ertuğrul depicts the pre-history of the Ottoman Empire, revolving around the plight of the nomadic Kayi Oghuz Turkish tribe, led by Ertuğrul, the father of Osman I, the founder of the Ottoman Empire.

TRT is now aiming to get the world record for the most new subscribers in 1 month on YouTube. The official channel of Ertuğrul currently has 6.2 million while the record stands 6.6 million. The official channel for Ertuğrul tweeted that the record could be reached with help from the channel’s Pakistani viewers.

The producers are hoping that the Pakistani ‘awaam’ would rather focus on viewing their show more rather than lecturing the cast about ‘halal dressing’ on Instagram. Stay posted for more news updates.
