Syed Noor Is Confused About Why Ertugrul Is So Popular

The Turkish drama Ertugrul continues to grow in popularity as more and more people are looking forward to binging the series on Netflix or PTV.

Since this is a foreign show with better content and production, many of our local ‘talent’ are feeling insecure. The latest celebrity to share his dismissive views about Ertugrul is actor and director Syed Noor.

The historical epic tells the story of Ertugrul Ghazi, the father of Osman I, who established the Ottoman Empire. The series is filled with action-packed war sequences, brilliant storytelling, and honorable figures that value Islamic teaching and bravery.

However, famous Pakistani director Syed Noor has a hard time understanding what the show is about and why is it so popular.

According to the veteran film director, the drama only has four horses that run here and there. (And the horses weren’t all white!)

Before anyone attacks Syed Noor, in his defense, he did watch two full episodes of the drama. It just wasn’t up to the ‘renowned’ director’s standards.

Syed Noor expressed his views during an interview that he watched the series a year ago and found nothing of interest.

We have to take him up on his word as his filmography speaks for itself. Known for making such ‘classics’ like Majajan, Buddha Gujjar and who can forget about the Oscar-snub that was Jungle Queen.

Producers for Ertugrul should take notes. For instance, Ertugrul Ghazi should ride a white horse, shout when he talks, grow a big mustache, and maybe have Halima dance around, sarcastically speaking of course.

Syed Noor wants a show on this Muslim hero

When asked if not Ertugrul, which Muslim historic figure should there be a show about, Syed Noor mentioned Mohammad Bin Qasim.

The director said he would love to see the journey and struggle of Mohammad Bin Qasim at the time when there was no Islam in the subcontinent.

All our directors and actors’ job is to suggest good ideas such as this. In fact, they are in a position to actually make a show like that for us. But what do they do instead? Complaining.
