Nazia Hassan and her songs can still make us groove no matter where we are. From Disco Deewaney to Teri Meri Esi Dosti, her songs are iconic and quite unforgettable.
While we may think there’s no one else like her, there seems to be someone who sounds just like her. British singer Arzutra Garielle’s voice has an uncanny resemblance to the music icon’s.
Garielle is a British-Asian singer based in London, who sings in Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi. Her parents are from Africa but her grandparents are from India where they emigrated from after partition.
Arzutra pursued music against her parents’ wishes. They preferred that she focus on her studies instead.
The singer has clearly proven her talent, going from not being able to speak any Indian languages to being compared to Nazia Hassan. She worked with vocal coaches Chiranjib Chakraborty of India, Nisar Daniel of Pakistan, and Victor Asquith of UK.
Her debut album Woh Pal came out in 2020 and she has already released a single from her second album as well.
In a recent interview she spoke about her musical influences growing up and her icons which happen to include Shreya Goshal and Lata Mangeshkar.
