Chemical mehndi is a quick fix. Without the hassle of waiting for it to dry we get deep color in less than 5 minutes. However just because something works for a few doesn’t mean its a safe process.
Dr. Shaista Lodhi shared her patient’s case where the young woman suffered burns from chemical mehndi. The morning show host shared how this wasn’t the first case of its kind but it was the worst. This compelled her to spread awareness about the dangers of chemical mehndi.
Dr. Shaista Lodhi shared how the chemicals used to give the mehndi that instant deep red color can burn the user’s skin. She said;
“PPD and other extremely harmful chemicals are used in this mehndi to give it that deep red color, which can cause serious skin burns. ….In case of first-degree burns the damage is limited to the epidermal layer, which is recoverable. But in case of second-degree or god forbid third-degree burns, scars remain on your hands for a lifetime.”

She also advised young women to steer clear of bleach and wax as they can also cause chemical burns. Adding that they should consult a doctor and only used doctors’ prescribed safe products.
