A 10-day-old baby was abducted from her own house in Karachi’s Al-Falah Housing Society. The incident took place almost 2 weeks ago. Moreover, on Thursday, police officials arrested a close family relative. The relative was caught carrying the baby in CCTV footage obtained from a nearby location.
The mother of the infant put her to sleep and then went to sleep herself. Once she woke up she found that her baby’s crib was empty. Distressed, she told her husband and family members of the situation.
The family members looked for the baby but to no avail. Finally, the husband decided to obtain CCTV footage from a nearby location. In the footage, 2 women could be seen carrying the infant from their house. The family also shared the video on Facebook – let’s take a look:
An FIR was also filed with the police who then launched an investigation. It was later determined that a close family member had abducted the child. On Thursday, police officials arrested the baby’s aunt [khala] and another accomplice.
As it turns out, someone recognized one of the women in a burqa. The woman who kidnapped the child was her own khala [mother’s sister]. The accomplice has not been identified as of yet.
Earlier a CCTV footage from a hospital in Karachi showed a woman kidnapping an infant from the hospital’s pediatric department. In another incident, a gang – disguised as hospital staff- was arrested for kidnapping and selling babies. They also arrested female nurses and doctors.
