It’s been 5 years since Amjad Sabri was assassinated in Karachi, but his legacy continues to remind us what a legendary qawwal he was. On his 5th death anniversary, Amjad Sabri’s children remember him and pay a tribute.
The qawwal was shot dead in Karachi, right after finishing a morning TV show on June 22, 2016 (16th Ramazan). His last naat recorded in the studio was ‘Ae Sabz Gumbad Wale Manzoor Dua Karna’ which included the stanza:
“Main qabr andheri mein ghabraoon ga jab tanha, Imdaad meri karnay aajana meray aaqa.” (When I shudder in my dark tomb, dear Prophet, look after me.)
On his 5th death anniversary, Amjad Sabri’s children took to their respective social media handles and shared how much the miss him.
Hoorain Sabri, his daughter shared some memories with her father and wrote,
“Or aj phir wo din agaya. Its been 5years now and i still can’t believe this. We miss you. Hum jitna apni life mein busy hojayein ek incomplete ehsas hamare sth rehta hai.” (No matter how much we get busy in our lives, an incomplete feeling lives with us.)
Mujaddid Sabri, who is also a qawwal like his father, shared a side by side collage with his Sabri wearing the same kurta he once wore. He wrote,
“Same kurta. 16 Ramazan. We miss you daddy.”
