We are all aware of Pakistan-India political relations. The situation has gotten worse over the last few years, to the point that Pakistani artists are outright banned to work in India. But a recent photoshoot for an Indian designer in the country has sparked public fury and Maria B has raised a valid question.
Indian fashion designer Abhinav Mishra orchestrated a campaign in Lahore. The elaborate fashion shoot took place in Lahore and the video went viral on Pakistani social media. Many were disappointed to see the fashion shoot being held in Pakistan and Maria B is one of them.
Maria B is not happy with the shoot
Taking it to her Instagram stories, the designer asked why Indians are allowed to plan out shoots in Pakistani, but the same courtesy and opportunity is not extended to Pakistani designers/artists. She wrote,
“This is an Indian designer shoot happening in Pakistan! Whoa! Umm, if this is happening in Pakistan, why aren’t we allowed to do this in India?”
She also raised valid questions about PM Imran Khan’s directives on the situation in Kashmir.
“Shouldn’t we as an industry be reacting the same way as India is towards our designers and our creators in their country rather than a one-sided relationship? And what about our PM’s directives about Kashmir?”
Anoushey Ashraf responds
Anoushey Ashraf also shared her opinion on the matter and said that maybe we should be the ‘bigger person here’.
“Artists should never be stopped from working in other countries, they’re the few people who actively bring us closer together.”
However, she also understands where Maria B is coming from.
