Ghana Ali was recently advised to reconsider her tattoos as they invalidate prayers. The Saya e Dewar Bhi Nahi actress responded to the comment, saying she is answerable for her own prayers and doesn’t want anyone to dictate her on that.

The actress has a Yin and Yang tattoo on her neck and one on her left wrist, at least that’s what we have seen in her photos. There might be any other tattoos, but we have only seen these two on her Instagram.

Ghana Ali doesn’t shy away from flaunting her tattoos, and in one of her recent photos, a netizen asked her ‘to take note’ of them from the Islamic point of view. Responding to her, the Saraab actor asked the user whether she is the one who is answerable for her prayers.

Many people were disappointed at Ghana Ali for the way she responded and thought that she was rude. Many were in favor of the user for trying to correct the actress politely, but some were of the view that these topics should not be discussed.

The problem with tattoos

As far as the debate on tattoos is concerned, we as Muslims, are aware that the body we have is actually entrusted to us by Allah. It doesn’t belong to us, hence we shall not harm it or damage it in any way since we will eventually return to Him.

Similarly, we are not allowed to make permanent changes to it like permanent tattoos. But, as Mufti Menk says, if one has made such a mistake when ‘he was not practicing much, was not a Muslim or was ignorant’, he can repent and be forgiven for that. He dedicated one of his videos to this issue, and said,

“It’s not so easy to remove it [tattoo], because sometimes it is more damaging to remove it, than just leave it. You know you made the mistake, but if you try and rectify it it might damage your body even more and defeats the purpose. The moment you regret your decision and seek forgiveness, you will be forgiven.”
