Ushna Shah Condemns Portrayal Of Cousin Marriage In Dramas – Public Reacts

Ushna Shah is often in the news for her outspoken stance on social issues, and for all the right reasons. The Parizaad actress is pretty vocal about social issues in the country and this time she has drawn attention to a prevalent trend in the desi society, that is ‘cousin marriages’.

The diva recently took it to her Twitter handle and urged the media industry as well as the artists to stop promoting cousin marriages as it causes several health issues in children. Shah encouraged the media personnel to avoid depicting such practices on-screen, posting down the diseases that manifest in children conceived out of cousin marriage.

Thalassemia is known to be a major problem in Pakistan as millions of children suffer from it and have fallen victim to it due to cousin marriages.

Ushna Shah tweeted;

“As artists and creators, we should stop encouraging cousin romances in dramas. Generations of cousin marriages have resulted in countless health issues and birth defects in children, such as Thalassemia and learning disabilities. Let’s take this seriously.”

The Parizaad star highlighted the plight of children suffering from genetic disorders due to cousin marriages.

    • But aisa masla hota hai, literally scientifically proven hai. Can’t deny imperative results. Plus you guys should also understand the context of Quranic verses as this verse was revealed when such marriages were common in Arabia at the time
