Harassment in Islamabad Raises Debate: It’s Not The Dressing

Another incidence of street harassment has taken desi Twitter by storm. A video of a woman being groped in Islamabad, has Netizens calling out how clothing has nothing to do with the crime.

CCTV footage of the incident is making rounds online. In the video we see a burka-clad woman walking down the street when a man runs behind her and gropes her while restraining her arms. As the women cried out, the attacker runs away.

A Twitter account ‘Islamabad Updates’ first shared the video. The incident took place in Islamabad’s Sector I/10.

 

The video was shared by many on Twitter including, Information Secretary of Pakistan People’s Party in Azad and Jammu Kashmir (AJK), Zobia Khurshid.

 

However, when several people reshared the video it led to many authorities getting involved.

Such a crime in Pakistan’s capital city had people address her dressing, and the fact that clothing has nothing to do with such crimes against women.

 

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police assert that they are trying to track down the harasser.

As per the ICT police, one particular journalist, Ethesham Ali Abbasi claimed that the woman who was harassed sent him this video personally. Adding that the police have not taken any action so far. ICT police replied to him saying that they are working on the investigation.

 

The journalist is also claiming to be in contact with the family. Adding that they are satisfied with the police investigation so far as officers have traced the guy. ICT said;

“Banda giraftar hojaye tou tasveer ke sath share keren.”
