Sajal Aly Confident Her New Serial Will Revive Dramas Like Old-School PTV

Mira Sethi also opened up about her resilient character.

After Sinf-e-Ahan, ace director Nadeem Baig is back with another amazing story based on women empowerment with light humor and a series of emotions, Kuch Ankahi.  Written by Syed Muhammad Ahmed, it has a star-studded cast including Sajal Aly, Bilal Abbas Khan, Irsa Ghazal, Asma Abbas, Mira Sethi, Qudsia Ali, Ali Safina, and Sheheryar Munawar Siddiqui.

The first episode of the serial premiered on Saturday and it had everything, a dash of drama, a pinch of spice, and a whiff of comedy. The Internet is all praises for the narrative it brings.

In conversation with Fuchsia, the cast of the Kuch Ankahi spoke about what made them sign on to the project.

For Sajal Aly, it was the fusion of Nadeem Baig and writer-actor Syed Muhammad Ahmed. Talking about this being her dream project, she said,

Sinf-e-Aahan was my first play with Baig Sahab. He topped the list of directors I wanted to work with. So one day, I told him to take me on one of his projects. That’s how I landed in Sinf-e-Ahan and I never thought I will get another serial with him in the same year. When he asked me, i said ‘duh, why is that even a question?’ Also, it’s written by Mohammed Ahmed. I love him. Meri unse behad muhabbat, ishq, dosti hai. It was a dream come true for me.

Sajal went on to recall how she has been a fan of Muhammad Ahmed before she even pursued acting professionally. She sighed and said, “I first met Ahmed Sahab at a set. My mom was doing a project somewhere and he saw me there and told me that he was writing Umrao Jaan but I was too young for it. So after all these years, finally doing a script written by him means everything to me”.

Discussing the storyline of Kuch Ankahi Sajal shared that there are seldom such drama serials that feel close to her heart and this is one of them.

We’re talking about women’s empowerment and this project has so many women at the center of the story with their own individual narratives. We’re not just supporting each other in the script but even on the set. All of us, Vaneeza, Mira, Qudsia, we’re all there for each other. The feeling when you actually, genuinely support women is the best feeling and that comes out in its best form in the serial.

Talking about her role in the serial the actress just reveals that it’s “incredibly special” for her.

Talking about the genre of the serial Sajal revealed,

I love comedy but this isn’t on-the-face comedy. This is the kind of old-school PTV family drama that you still remember. You’ll cry, you’ll laugh, and you’ll celebrate with us. It’s a lot of emotions together.

Describing the same Mira Sethi, who said she rejected 5 dramas since Paristan said, “I rejected 4-5 projects this year because they were, well, just not great. The feel of this project is Anwar Maqsood meets Haseena Moin meets Syed Muhammad Ahmed. It’s a comedy, its satire, and its light, and yet it has an emotional tenant to it”.

Mira Sethi, who is playing the eldest sister Samiya, shared details about her resilient character, “She’s someone with a lot of quiet strength but that’s not visible in the beginning,” she said.
